Kawasaki WorldSBK Team Scores First Points
Garrett Gerloff secured his first points of the 2025 WorldSBK season with a 13th-place finish in Race Two at Phillip Island, overcoming a challenging final day at the 4.445km Australian circuit.
Gerloff was in the midfield battle at the start of the ten-lap Superpole Race but was taken out by another rider at the slow T4 corner. He attempted to rejoin the race but was forced to retire due to a technical issue.
After the Kawasaki WorldSBK Team prepared his Ninja ZX-10RR for the 20-lap Race Two, Gerloff started in 15th and fought his way to 13th at the finish line. In a tight battle down the main straight, he edged out Michael van der Mark to claim three championship points.
The second and final race of Sunday included a mandatory mid-race tire change, which Gerloff and his team executed smoothly without penalty.
Following the opening round of the 12-round 2025 FIM Superbike World Championship, Gerloff sits in 15th place in the standings. The next race weekend will take place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal from March 28-30.
Rider Reaction
Garrett Gerloff:
“Honestly, it was a tough weekend, and I feel bad for the team. We’re all giving our best, but sometimes luck just isn’t on your side. Unfortunately, I got taken out in the Superpole Race and couldn’t finish. Then, in Race Two, I simply didn’t have the speed. We finished in the points, but far from where we want to be. I’m giving it everything, and I really appreciate the team’s hard work. We’ll regroup and try again in Portugal.”
