Challenging Final Day for KRT At Motorland
Axel Bassani picked up points in the final WorldSBK race at Motorland Aragon on Sunday, September 29, but it was a tougher day for Alex Lowes after a crash in the Superpole Race aggravated his recently injured left calf. Lowes was forced to sit out the final 18-lap Race Two.
Under sunny skies, Lowes was running near the front during the Superpole Race when he crashed between Turns 1 and 2 on lap three. After getting pushed wide early on, he made up some ground before suffering a rear slide that caused a shallow highside, sending him off track and re-injuring his calf. Due to the pain and limited movement from a new contusion and hematoma, he was declared unfit for Race Two.
Bassani finished 15th in the Superpole Race, which didn’t award points due to its sprint format. He fought back in Race Two, securing a 12th-place finish, just as he did in Saturday’s race.
Lowes is now fifth in the championship standings with 264 points, while Bassani sits 15th with 88 points.
With the Motorland Aragon weekend wrapped up, the KRT team is heading to Jerez for a two-day test from October 1-2. The WorldSBK season will finish with rounds in Estoril, Portugal, and Jerez, Spain, with the next event taking place in Estoril from October 11-13.
