Texas Motor Speedway, located in Fort Worth, Texas is one of the largest, premier motorsports venues in the United States, known for hosting major NASCAR and IndyCar events. This weekend, it turned its spotlight on the 2024 SuperMotocross World Championship™ Playoff 2. The speedway’s top-notch facilities and large infield were perfect for blending the thrills of Supercross with the grit of motocross, all while chasing crucial points for the championship. Combined with the extreme heat, the more hard-packed soil would provide a much more technical and demanding racing experience for the riders.
In the 250SMX Class, Masterpool and Kitchen delivered solid qualifying performances, taking third and seventh place, with Marchbanks and McAdoo finishing 10th and 16th. McAdoo advanced through the Last Chance Qualifier with a second-place result. In Moto 1, Masterpool had a strong start, quickly securing second, while Kitchen, McAdoo, and Marchbanks found themselves just outside the Top 10. Kitchen wasted no time, battling his way into eighth. Masterpool was in contention for a podium before losing control on a slick jump face, forcing him to remount in sixth. Marchbanks started picking off competitors, reaching sixth before a mistake in the rhythm section dropped him back to 10th. McAdoo fought from 15th place, making strategic passes to finish eighth, while Masterpool and Marchbanks recovered to finish 10th and 12th. Kitchen engaged in a fierce battle with Rj Hampshire late in the race for sixth, ultimately crossing the line in seventh. In Moto 2, Kitchen, Masterpool, and McAdoo launched off the gate on their KX™250s in second, fourth, and fifth. Marchbanks began in 11th but quickly moved up to seventh, fighting within the Top 10. Kitchen pressured race leader Haiden Deegan early on, but as the track conditions deteriorated, mistakes became more frequent. Masterpool was once again in podium contention early on, but an off-track incident caused him to crash, forcing the No. 29 to remount in 15th. McAdoo maintained a steady pace for most of the race, but a late error pushed him back to seventh. Kitchen held onto second for much of the moto, but ultimately fell back to finish fourth. Despite their setbacks, Masterpool and Marchbanks fought through to finish 12th and 14th.
In the 450SMX Class, Anderson kicked off the day by qualifying 11th. In Moto 1, he had a strong start in seventh but soon dropped to eighth. Despite finding his rhythm, a mid-race mistake caused him to lose another position. Anderson recovered quickly and regained his pace, finishing the moto in eighth. In Moto 2, Anderson had a strong start, moving into third in the first turn and battling for the lead early on. However, as the race wore on, he slipped to fourth while defending his position. As the heat and race progressed, Anderons’s practice crash at the last round and week off the bike began to show, and he eventually dropped to eighth, where he remained after a late attempt to move up to seventh.
Defending Supermini World All-Star Champion Carson Wood started his day by setting the fastest time on his No. 1 KX™112 among all Supermini World All-Star competitors in qualifying. In the Main Event, Wood faced a monumental challenge after starting from 20th position. Within one lap, he had already broken into the Top 10, but the reigning champion wasn’t satisfied. He began overtaking riders one by one, clocking the fastest lap of the race. Entering the final lap in fourth, Wood pushed himself to the limit. In the sand section, the No. 1 rider made a crucial pass to secure a podium finish, ultimately taking third place.
